Winning the Ashes in England is one thing, winning them in Australia, quite another.
England's triumph in the 1954-55 Ashes series marks a watershed moment in the history of English cricket. Under the leadership of Len Hutton, the country's first professional captain, one of the greatest group of players ever to represent England won an Ashes series in Australia for the first time in more than 20 years. It is a feat that has been repeated only four times in more than 70 years since.
Hutton's men had to overcome the additional obstacle of being thrashed in the first Test - only one other England team has recovered from such a monumental setback to win a series in Australia.
The England players - Hutton, Denis Compton, Godfrey Evans, Bill Edrich, Trevor Bailey, Peter May and Colin Cowdrey - were household names, in contrast to today's Test stars, and the series was followed with rapt attention via radio bulletins and daily newspapers.
One of the greatest Ashes series is brought to life in this momentous slice of sporting and social history.
